ABA Therapy Services in Utah for Children

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a proven therapeutic approach that uses individualized behavior programs to help children develop and improve essential skills. ABA focuses on increasing positive behaviors, decreasing or eliminating negative behaviors, and building self-help, social, and play skills.

Through evidence-based practices, ABA can reduce maladaptive behaviors such as aggression, self-stimulatory behaviors, and self-injurious behaviors (SIBs). ABA therapy is highly effective for many children diagnosed with autism, supporting their growth toward greater independence and success in daily life. At Autism Centers of Utah we will make sure your child shows progress with this program.

Understanding ABA Therapy

There are many misconceptions about what “ABA” is, and numerous prepackaged programs claim to offer ABA services. It’s important to remember that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to Applied Behavior Analysis. Each ABA program must be individualized to meet your child’s unique needs. At our autism therapy center, our therapists use data-driven assessments, evidence-based procedures, and treatments that are recognized as best practices in the behavioral services industry. We conduct thorough evaluations, create personalized care plans, and provide specific recommendations to achieve meaningful, lasting behavior changes.

Step 1: Is ABA the Right Fit for Your Family?

During your initial consultation, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss your concerns and determine if ABA therapy is the right fit for your child. Each treatment plan is designed to leverage your child’s strengths while addressing skill deficits. Progress is maximized when the family collaborates closely with our therapists to support your child’s growth and success.

Step 2: Getting Started

To begin ABA therapy for your child, we’ll need you to complete documentation that provides essential information about your child and family. This step allows you to outline your primary concerns, questions, goals, and specific areas you’d like to address.

Step 3: Creating an Individualized, Data-Driven Treatment Plan

Your family will be introduced to one of our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA), who will serve as the lead “coach” for your child’s team of therapists. The BCBA will meet with you to discuss and schedule the initial observations and assessments of your child. The duration of this phase will depend on your child’s needs and availability.

The skills assessment aims to gather baseline information about your child’s behavior, language, daily living, social, academic, functional, and play skills. Once the assessment is complete, the BCBA will follow up with you to review the findings, discuss preliminary treatment goals, and make recommendations regarding where therapy should take place and how many therapy hours are necessary to work on the treatment goals. The BCBA will then create a personalized treatment plan and seek authorization from your insurance company to begin services.

Step 4: Putting the Treatment Plan into Action

Once the treatment plan is developed, the BCBA will guide, supervise, and oversee all behavior therapists involved in implementing your child’s behavior plan. During each therapy session, behavior therapists will electronically collect data, allowing the BCBA to continuously monitor and analyze your child’s progress. If needed, adjustments will be made to the plan to ensure optimal results.

As your child masters new skills, additional goals will be incorporated into the plan. The BCBA will regularly supervise the behavior therapists and consult with caregivers to ensure the therapy is as effective and successful as possible, providing your child with the best opportunity for growth and progress.
